Lord, thy word abideth,
and our footsteps guideth;
who its truth believeth
light and joy receiveth.
When our foes are near us,
then thy word doth cheer us,
word of consolation,
message of salvation.
When the storms are o’er us,
and dark clouds before us,
then its light directeth,
and our way protecteth.
Who can tell the pleasure,
who recount the treasure
by thy word imparted
to the simple-hearted?
Word of mercy, giving
succour to the living;
word of life, supplying
comfort to the dying.
O that we discerning
its most holy learning,
Lord, may love and fear thee,
evermore be near thee!
“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
Matthew 24:35
I have been really busy with school and church activities this few weeks and haven’t been active here.. Though I have been busy, this hymn has been an encouragement me me the past few weeks especially during my studies and year end homework, tests, and exams. I hope this hymn I have shared here will bring you much joy and comfort too. No matter what situation you may be in, remember His words in Joshua 1:9, “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
In the midst of my studies, I am constantly reminded by this hymn to look to God for comfort and cheer. God’s word never fails to guide me in His steps. Truly God’s Word abideth still and must abide always in our hearts and minds. May the Lord be our constant guide and strength!
