I’m so glad to be able to share a little of my thoughts here! Thinking over the year 2020, it has certainly been a year of changes, and yet at the same time tremendous blessings from the Lord. The year 2020 started off like a normal year, with everyone busy with their school and work, until covid-19 struck and Singapore imposing circuit breaker which changed many routines and put a stop to many events.
Spiritual Lessons
The biggest change in my life was not being able to go to church for worship services nor prayer meetings (not even choir!!) Going to church became a convenient tap of a button to view the YouTube live stream, going to fellowship groups became an easy ‘logging in’ to Zoom.
Because of these changes, I was also made aware of how frail man is, and how we are ultimately still under the Sovereign will of God. Truly, though we may plan for things, and we may even assume things were going to be the same / smooth sailing for us, but God has proven that He had other plans for us and sometimes put a little trial here or there to test us and our love for Him. Yet we know, that ultimately all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
Spending Circuit Breaker
On another note, how did I spend my time in Circuit breaker? I think I became one of those circuit BAKERS! I learnt a new recipe how to make bread in the easiest way – no knead bread. It was exciting to bake bread partially because of the waiting time where you can see the yeast making the dough rise almost triple its size.
Everytime I see the dough rise like this, I am reminded also of the verse that says in 1 Corinthians 5:6 “Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?” Here I am reminded through God’s word that just as a little bit of yeast (about 14 grams to be exact), can make a whole lump of dough (about 300 grams in total), this is how a little pride can make me so puffed up when actually inside I am nothing but air / empty. And do you know what the next step the baker has to do? He has to punch the dough with his fist, to let all that air out, because if he doesn’t, the bread will not have any flavour. This is a good reminder to me everytime I punch my dough, to get rid of all my pride before that makes me useless in the kingdom of God.
How life has changed
Other than not being able to go to church and to work, life has been pretty much the same for me. I’ve been working from home since March 2020 and I LOVE EVERY BIT OF IT. (Here’s a picture of my desk!) Here is where I talk to people, have virtual meetings and presentations. It’s really fun and I like it that I have my family around with me when I work! (Though sometimes they say I’m very noisy when I talk on the phone) Thank God for very friendly colleagues and good bosses that are over me to give me advice and guidance. Thank God for His grace to be able to work too! We should never take these things for granted.

Now as we hear that the government will be easing restrictions in October to 100 people per group, I can’t wait to go back to church for fellowship groups! Till then! ◡̈
